Privacy policy
This is the confidentiality policy of Accounting Companies, a directory of accounting and bookkeeping businesses in Canada operated by OLT Solutions (Québec, Canada). It is published under section 8.2 of Québec’s Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (Law 25), and it applies to everyone who visits this site and to everyone whose details appear in a listing.
In effect since September 3, 2026.
Who is responsible
Accounting Companies is operated by OLT Solutions, based in Québec, Canada.
The person in charge of the protection of personal information is the person exercising the highest authority within OLT Solutions. No named delegate has been appointed, so the responsibility rests with the highest authority in the enterprise by default, as Law 25 provides.
Reach that person through the correction and privacy request form, which is the contact route for every request in this policy.
What information is here, and why
1. Business listings compiled from public sources
The directory holds business names, street addresses, telephone numbers and websites collected from publicly available business listings. We did not obtain these details from the businesses themselves. They are published for one purpose only: to let someone looking for an accountant or bookkeeper find and contact a business near them.
Some of those entries are individual practitioners listed under their own personal name, and some of those addresses look residential. We treat those entries as personal information, not as business contact information, and we remove them on request without asking for a reason.
2. Messages you send us
When you use the correction form we store what you type — your email address, your name if you give one, and the message — so we can act on the request and tell you what we did. That is the only purpose. It is never added to a mailing list and never used for marketing.
3. Technical records of the request itself
Our web server and our CDN keep short-lived request records: IP address, browser user-agent string, the page requested and the time. They exist to keep the site up and to block abuse, they are not used to build a profile of you, and they are not combined with anything else on this page.
4. Aggregate counts
We count how many times a listing was shown and how many times it was clicked. Those are plain totals attached to the listing, not to you: no identifier for you is stored with them.
Technologies that can identify, locate or profile you — and how to switch each one off
Law 25 s.8.1 requires that you be told about every technology of this kind used on the site, and told how to deactivate it. Here is the complete list. None of them is required to use the directory: every firm on this site is reachable through the province and city pages, which use none of what follows.
Listing view and click counting (/api/track)
What it does. When the finder shows you nearby firms, your browser sends us the identifiers of those listings so we can add one to each listing’s view count, and does the same when you click one. So that a listing is counted once per day rather than on every scroll, your browser keeps a list of the listing identifiers it has already counted today in its own local storage, under keys beginning acc_imp_ and acc_clk_. That list never leaves your device, and no identifier for you or your device is created, sent or stored.
How to turn it off. Block requests to /api/track with a content blocker, or disable JavaScript for this site (the map will not load, but the province and city pages still work). Clearing this site’s data in your browser deletes the per-day list.
Precise location from your device (browser geolocation)
What it does. The finder can use your device’s own location to sort firms by distance. It never asks on page load — it only uses precise location if you have already granted this site permission, or when you ask it to locate you. The coordinates are used to rank results and are not stored against you.
How to turn it off. Decline the browser prompt, or set Location to “Block” for this site in your browser’s site settings (Chrome: the icon at the left of the address bar → Site settings; Safari: Settings → Websites → Location; Firefox: the padlock → Clear permission). Typing a city or postal code instead works without it.
Approximate location from your IP address
What it does. Without precise location, the map can centre on a rough position derived from your IP address. We ask only our own server (/api/geo), which reads an approximate latitude and longitude our CDN may attach to the request. Your IP address is not sent to any third party for this, and if our CDN does not supply a position the map simply opens on a national view.
How to turn it off. Disable JavaScript for this site, or ignore it — the directory works without it. Precise location is never taken without asking: it happens only when you press “use my location” and grant your browser’s permission prompt, and you can revoke that at any time in your browser’s site settings.
Address autocomplete (/api/geocode)
What it does. What you type into the address box is sent to our own geocoding service to suggest matching addresses. It is run on our own infrastructure, not a third party, and the text is not kept against you.
How to turn it off. Do not type an address — browse by province and city instead.
Map tiles from OpenStreetMap
What it does. The map images are loaded by your browser from tile.openstreetmap.org, so that service receives your IP address and the area of the map you are looking at.
How to turn it off. Use the province and city pages, which show the same firms in a list and load no map tiles.
Cookies
This site sets no cookie for visitors — no advertising cookie, no analytics cookie, no tracking pixel. The only cookie this application issues is a sign-in cookie for site administrators. Our CDN and security provider (Cloudflare) may set a technical cookie of its own to tell humans from bots; it is not used for advertising.
Advertising on this site
The site carries clearly-labelled advertising from an accounting company. It is marked “Sponsored” or “Paid advertisement”, it sits outside the search results, and it is not an endorsement by us. The advertiser does not receive your personal information from us, and no firm can pay to rank higher in the results.
Business contact information (PIPEDA)
Under section 4.01 of Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, business contact information is exempt from consent requirements only when it is collected, used or disclosed solely to communicate with that person in relation to their business. That is the only thing this directory does with it: publishing a business name, address, telephone number and website so a prospective client can get in touch about that business. We do not sell it, rent it, licence it as a lead list, or enrich it into a profile of an individual. If an entry is really a person rather than a business, the exemption does not apply and we handle it as personal information — see the next two sections.
Automated decisions and profiling
We make no decision about you by exclusively automated means, and we build no profile of visitors. Search results are ordered by distance from the place you searched, nothing else.
Your rights
You may ask us, free of charge, to:
- See the personal information we hold about you;
- Correct anything inaccurate, incomplete or ambiguous — including details of your firm;
- Delete a listing that is about you personally;
- Stop the dissemination of information about you, or have a page de-indexed from search engines (see below);
- Withdraw a consent you previously gave;
- Complain about how we handled any of the above.
Use the request form. We aim to acknowledge within 5 business days and to answer within 30 days, which is the deadline Law 25 sets. If you are not satisfied you may complain to the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec or to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Removal and de-indexing (Law 25, s.28.1)
Section 28.1 gives you the right to have information about you de-indexed, or its dissemination stopped, in the circumstances the Act describes. We go further than the statutory minimum for this directory: if a listing is your personal name, or your home address, ask and we will remove it. We will not ask you to demonstrate injury and we will not ask you to prove your identity beyond what is needed to be sure the request is really about your own entry.
When you ask for removal we:
- take the listing off the public site, and stop it being rebuilt from our sources;
- tell search engines the page is gone, so it drops out of results as they re-crawl — how fast that happens is up to them, not us;
- keep only the minimum record of the request needed to prove we honoured it and to stop the entry reappearing;
- write back to confirm what was done.

How long we keep things
- Listings — until the business closes, asks to be removed, or we find the entry is not an accounting or bookkeeping business.
- Your messages — for as long as needed to handle the request and to show that we did, then deleted.
- Server and CDN request records — short-lived, for security and abuse handling only.
Where the information is held
The site runs on infrastructure operated by OLT Solutions in Canada. Requests reach it through Cloudflare’s global network, so technical request data (such as your IP address) may be processed by Cloudflare outside Québec in the course of delivering and protecting the site. The third-party IP-location fallback described above is the other case where data leaves our infrastructure, and you can switch it off.
Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit (HTTPS), access to the administrative side of the site is restricted and password-protected, and requests to the contact form are rate-limited to deter abuse. No system is perfect; if we ever suffer a confidentiality incident presenting a risk of serious injury, we will notify the Commission d’accès à l’information and the people concerned, as Law 25 requires.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top of the page. The version in effect is always the one published here.
Contact
Every request under this policy goes through the correction and privacy request form. We publish no postal address for privacy requests; the form reaches the person in charge directly.
