How we verify accounting firms
Our goal is to build a useful, transparent directory of accounting firms in Canada. Every listing starts with public information, and we show the source class behind stronger claims so you can judge what to rely on.
Where our listings come from
Every firm here was compiled from public business directories — Yellow Pages Canada was the initial seed — and then geocoded on our own infrastructure. Records can include business name, address, phone, website and attributed facts found during later enrichment. Coverage varies by field and changes as sources refresh; the live data report publishes the current counts.
Where a description, email, owner name, hours or specialization came from a firm’s own website, it is firm-published information rather than an independent verification. A claim submitted by an owner is likewise labelled as the firm’s statement.
Service labels are indicated, not confirmed
The service tags on a listing — bookkeeping, payroll, corporate tax, tax planning, personal tax — are derived from the category the firm was listed under in the source directory, plus keywords in its business name. They are a starting point for narrowing a search. They have not been confirmed with the firm, and you should ask any firm you contact what it actually does before you engage it.
What the register badge means
A badge appears on a listing only when we matched that firm to a named public register and recorded the date we checked. As of 3 September 2026 we have checked the public firm registers of the CPA bodies in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
A match means the firm appeared in that province’s register of registered firms on the date shown. It is not a statement about any individual’s licence, about the firm’s current standing, or about whether it may perform assurance work — confirm those with the CPA body directly.
Everything else has no recorded registry match. In particular: a firm whose name contains “CPA” is not treated as registry matched — that is a keyword, not a check. We previously also badged firms whose own website mentioned a CPA designation; we withdrew those badges on 3 September 2026 because too many pointed at national-chain head-office pages or insolvency trustees, which are a different regulated profession.
We have not checked Ontario or Québec — between them the two largest provinces in this directory. To confirm that any firm is a licensed CPA firm, check with the CPA body in its province — and treat this directory as a place to find candidates, not as proof of anyone’s professional status.
Ratings and reviews
A rating is shown only with its source and review count. First-party reviews and source-attributed third-party ratings must not be blended. Ratings never create a registry badge or change organic search order. Paid advertising is labelled “Sponsored” and kept outside the results list.
Keeping data accurate
Firms can claim their listing from any profile page to correct details and add services; a claimed fact is shown as the firm’s own statement. Anyone — firm or member of the public — can also report a correction or ask to be removed, and a person reads every request.
